The Historic Anchorage Hotel
The historic Anchorage hotel is the oldest hotel in Anchorage, Alaska. There have been many guests who have reported experiencing strange things while staying at the hotel. Many guests have reported seeing a little girl walking around in the second floor’s hallway. In rooms 215 and 217 there have been even more strange events. Guests have said the televisions would just turn on and off randomly, as well as the faucets of the sink and bathtub, without anyone touching them. The curtains have been known to suddenly shake and the shower curtains sometime sway as if someone was touching them. The employees of the hotel have reported hearing footsteps as if someone were coming down the stairs when the hotel was completely empty. Others have even seen a man who walks by the stairs. Even more strange, the picture above the mantlepiece in the hotel reportedly flew across the room and landed on the coffee table.
The Anchorage Hotel is believed to be haunted by more than one ghost. The Anchorage sheriff, John J. Sturgess, was shot in an alleyway in 1921. On the way to the hospital he passed away, but many believe Sheriff Sturgess is a frequent visitor to the Anchorage Hotel.
In the 1920’s a woman was supposed to be marrying her fiance while staying at the hotel. He apparently struck riches during the gold rush and left her the day they were supposed to get married. Being so hurt and shocked she hung herself in her wedding dress. She is now said to walk the halls at night in her wedding dress.
